This year we will be using the Online Fair Entry Program for entering crop and garden produce exhibits. Skip waiting in lines by registering your exhibits online BEFORE bringing them to the fair at http://www.boxeldercounty.org/fair.
Select the “2023 Online Entry Instructions” in the left-hand column of the page under FAIR. Enter your items in the program. Entries are not final until they have been submitted and you get an e-mail confirming your entries. Bring them to the fair on check-in day.
RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR AGRICULTURAL CROPS AND GARDEN PRODUCE
1. Exhibits will be accepted on Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 23 from 7 to 8 am.
2. Entries are restricted to residents of Box Elder County.
3. Only one entry per person of the same kind or variety will be accepted.
4. The entry must include the exact number of specimens as identified in the class list or it will not be accepted or judged.
5. All exhibits must have been grown by the exhibitor.
6. All entries will be judged on their own merit and judging is closed to the public.
7. All vegetables and fruit exhibits should be as near market maturity and quality and as fresh as possible.
8. All specimens in the exhibit should be of the same color, size, shape, maturity, and variety.
9. Specimens should be clean and free of soil and blemishes caused by insects, bruising, wind, etc.
10. Exhibitors must be 5 years of age or older.
11. Judging of exhibits will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 23.
12. EXHIBITS IN THE CROP BARN WILL BE RELEASED AT 9:30 PM ON SATURDAY, AUGUST 26TH. THE SUPERVISORS WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR CROP EXHIBITS OR RIBBONS UNCLAIMED AFTER 10 P.M. ON SATURDAY, AUG. 26TH.
13. IT IS THE EXHIBITOR'S RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THE EXHIBITS ARE ENTERED IN THE PROPER CLASS.
14. Class criteria are as follows:

B - 4-H/FFA Currently enrolled in 4-H or FFA

Lot 9 - Special Exhibit - Limit one entry per family in each class
Only one 1st ($15), 2nd ($10), and 3rd ($5) place ribbon will be awarded in each class. All other entries will receive a $2 participant premium.
129. Harvest Basket - must include six or more classes with each meeting the individual class requirement and being grown by the exhibitor.
130. Pepper Basket - must include four or more types & varieties of peppers with each meeting the individual class requirements.
131. Salsa Basket - must include four different vegetables that would be used to create fresh salsa. Each vegetable used in the basket should meet the individual class requirements.

Lot 10 - Let’s Get Growing Contest
The Box Elder County Junior Master Gardener program is continuing the “Let’s Get Growing” contest. The purpose of the contest is to promote an interest in gardening for youth and provide the opportunity to grow a plant not typically grown in our area. Each year a different plant will be sponsored and seeds provided at no charge to participants in May. At the fair, there will be a class judged specifically for that plant. The contest is open to all registered 4-H youth.
This year the plant to be grown will be Ornamental Corn. This contest will accept only entries grown from seeds provided to participants.

2023 Award Announcement
Outstanding Performance in Gardening
This award is to recognize individuals who earn excellent placing based on all their crop entries. This comprehensive prize will be awarded at the directors’ choice.
Outstanding performance awards will be presented along with a $25 premium. If no participants meet the qualifications, then no award will be presented.
Youth Vegetable Judging Contest
The vegetable judging contest for youth will be held Thursday, Aug. 24, from 3-5 p.m. in the Crops Barn. This contest is open to youth ages 8-18. Participants are graded on their ability to judge multiple classes of vegetables in areas including market maturity, size, shape, and absence of disease and blemishes. Age categories are as follows: Junior 8-10, Intermediate 11-13, and Senior 14-18. Prizes are awarded in each category.
